09/11/08 Well, despite it is Novembere (the month that I don't like at all) in Verona it seems like spring: warm, sunny and colourful. Verona is one the greatest cities in Italy, very important both historically and culturally. Usually Verona is known as the town of lovers from the Shakespeare's play and the balcony of Romeo and Juliet is always a major tourist attraction. The short passageway leading to the balcony is covered with slips of paper carrying their graffiti, and a bronze statue of Juliet stands under the balcony, one breast polished by those touching it for luck. The Lion of St.Marks can be seen throughout the city, attesting to the city's past as part of the Republic of Venice. There are many churches, monuments, and fortresses from various epochs, especially the Late Middle Ages, when the Scaliger family ruled Verona, but the greatest sight of them all is the ARENA, where nowadays operas are performed.
